Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes – Stary Kleparz
The Church of the Congregation of the Missionary Fathers of St. Vincent de Paul in Kraków, located at 19 Św. Filipa Street, is known as the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes.
In the chapel of our church, there is the miraculous statue of the Immaculate Virgin Mary of Lourdes, made as one of the very first statues during the lifetime of St. Bernadette Soubirous, to whom the Blessed Mother appeared eighteen times in the Grotto of Massabielle.
The statue was brought to Poland by the French missionary Fr. Piotr Soubieille, who came to Kraków in 1866 as the organizer and superior of the reborn Polish Province of the Congregation of the Mission. His love for his new homeland and religious fervor was founded on a deep devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes. An additional motive for spreading this devotion was his miraculous recovery after a serious accident.
At first, the statue was placed in the house chapel. Then he began efforts to build a new church under the patronage of St. Vincent de Paul, where to this day the miraculous and venerated statue of the Immaculate Virgin Mary of Lourdes is located.
The many votive offerings, constantly increasing in number and placed on the walls of the chapel, testify to the extraordinary graces received through the intercession of Mary – Our Lady of Lourdes.
